Change of Plans

Updated: Mar 23, 2025

Peace for me this week came from reading, resting, and knowing that God is in control of my life. By now I was supposed to have five kids, be a stay at home mom, and a sports mom traveling from practice to practice trying to keep my head on straight. Well, my life is far from that right now. However, I was reminded that God is in full control when I came across a video of the two astronauts that had been stranded in space. They were only supposed to be on an 8 day mission that turned into 9 months! One of the astronauts, Butch, told a reporter that he was able to find contentment and peace in those 9 additional months because he knew that God was ultimately in control and working out something greater than the plans they originally set out for. That's some BIG FAITH when you're stuck in the space station and no timeline of your return to Earth.

Then, while out running errands today, I was listening to my mother in law's podcast, and she shared that before Covid hit, she planned to go to Texas for two weeks to finish recording an album, but once everything got shut down, she was there for months and months! She goes on to share that God revealed some really cool things to her during that additional time there. Both of these stories reminded me that we all set out to make plans for our lives. When those plans don't work out, we have two choices; sit back, complain and passively wait for them to happen OR know that God is in control working out something greater and choose to live joyfully in the life he has given us.

It has taken me years to accept this way of living, but it's the only way I've been able to experience contentment.
