Hi, I'm A Worry Wart

If you saw the YouTube video, you know that I've already explained... I worry about everything. I've really tried hard to get better at this, and I do think that I've made a lot of progress over the years, but regardless of how many notes I take in my Bible, how many positive affirmations and things I see on social media, I still fall into the trap of worrying about things that I want to have within my control.

Philippians reminded me this week that I serve the one true God that is living and holds me in His hands. In him, I can have peace and understanding that will exceed any of my expectations. The problem is, I allow one thought to enter my brain and fixate on it until it becomes a worry, that then turns into fear. I shared in my YouTube video that Philippians 4:6 says, "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done." Verse 7 goes on to say, "Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus."

We are called in verse 8 to fix our thoughts on what is true and honorable, right, pure, lovely and admirable. I'm not saying it's wrong to be mindful of things that could come up in our lives or plan for things that we want in our lives, but if we're so fixated on something that it turns to worry which could then lead to fear, then we are not following the commands of verse 8 which is to fix our thoughts on more joyful things.

The big takeaway from this chapter and this study for me was that I have to put into practice this mindset. I can't just expect, without asking and leaning into God, that he's going to help me renew my mind. I have to practice daily the things that I've learned so that I don't spiral into a place of discontent.
